Get Out Of Town

One of the many special things about Las Vegas is that we have a National Park right in our backyard. Red Rock Canyon has incomparable views in the thirteen mile scenic loop. There are also hikes for all levels, a cool visitor center, and climbing/biking have also become increasingly popular.

If you're in the mood for a hike or a picnic but don't have time to drive the one way scenic loop, Calico Basin is a great alternative. The turnoff for Calico Basin is a mile or so before the Red Rock exit. You can park in a paved designated parking area. There is a nice covered picnic area with grills, a park bathroom, and numerous hiking trails. It's one of my favorite spots to go in the valley, especially when I'm in the mood to get away and connect with nature. Happy hiking!
