When football season arrives, fans everywhere dust off their jerseys, rewatch highlight reels, and (sometimes) embrace quirky traditions or superstitions they believe help their team win. Across the country, households have their own rituals: lucky socks worn every Sunday, seats on the couch no one else is allowed to take, or game-day meals that never change.

For our family of Denver Broncos fans, that ritual involves a very specific pre-game snack: oranges and blueberries. Every game day, before kickoff, we gather around and share a bowl of the two fruits. The tradition started years ago as a playful nod to the team’s colors (orange and blue) but over time it became something more. Now, it’s not just about team spirit; it’s a superstition. We believe that skipping the ritual could tempt fate, so no matter how busy the morning is, we make sure the oranges are peeled, the blueberries are ready, and everyone takes part.

These kinds of traditions are what make football season more than just a sport. They bring families and friends together, infuse games with a sense of magic, and keep the spirit of fandom alive through every touchdown and every nail-biting fourth quarter. For us, the Broncos may battle it out on the field, but in our living room, victory always begins with oranges and blueberries.
